Weekly Video: Flying Cars
Just as we prepare for Tech Week and news crosses the wire that Britain will forego some of its planned expansion of Heathrow Airport in order to reduce carbon emissions, we also learn that air travel is about to become all-the-more accessible… if you have an extra $200k.
That’s right — the ever-illusive flying car is back, only this time it’s ready for full deployment in the 4th Quarter this year. Of course, flying cars aren’t a new idea, but they’re apparently gaining steam once again. I chose the following as our weekly video because I’m baffled as to what a person does with a flying car. If you’re looking for a fun and frightening exercise, try to imagine what civilization would look like if we all had our own Terrafugia Transition. I’m envisioning McMansions (not unlike the one in the video) built on beautiful greenfields, oriented in a series of cul-de-sacs, which are clustered around neighborhood airstrips. Every morning, commuters will drive to their neighborhood airstrip and taxi until it’s their turn for departure, eventually landing at a different, far-off airstrip which is surrounded by business parks. A promising future indeed!
All snark aside, here’s the clip…
Admittedly, it is kind of cool — kind of.
